An Ethical Cashmere Brand: the origins of NUN1970.
NUN1970 is about roots, cultures, and focus. It is about passion.
A life-long passion, the one who led Hany Beshr, the CEO and founder of the brand, a second-generation fashion entrepreneur, to follow his dreams and make them happen.
Growing up in Egypt, as a kid Hany spent plenty of time in his family’s garments manufacturing business. Since a very young age, his early memories are of bright colors, the smell of fresh fabrics, and the gentle humming sound of the knitting machines.
Fast-forward in life, after an international career in business consulting, and as a Harvard University Master graduate, Dr Beshr envisioned the idea of creating NUN1970 while working on a cross-Asia educational program for high-scholars and college students.
During his Asian business trips, he fell in love with Mongolia, fascinated by the beauty of the countryside and its lifestyle, reflected in the pure soul simplicity of the local community.
As a fashion entrepreneur, he found it ironic that Cashmere, one of the softest fabrics in the world, was produced within one of the harshest living conditions he had ever seen. That the local communities weren’t granted a fair share of the business results. This realization sparked a meaningful purpose.
On that trip, Hany committed to serving the Mongolian community, and decided to fulfil his life-long passion, reviving his family tradition of knitting and garment manufacturing. He determined to get back into the family business again.
A sustainable Mongolian Cashmere brand was born, its name was NUN1970. Its purpose was to preserve wildlife and uphold it.
